Powerpuff Girls: Power Up My Mojo ComicWow! Review

This trade paperback contains issues four through six of IDW’s Powerpuff Girls.

Haley Mancini has written a handful of stories for IDW’s Powerpuff Girls comic.  She is better known as a voice actress and actress who has worked on the Powerpuff Girls TV series as the voice of Princess Morbucks. She also worked on the series as a story editor, on an episode of the series that was critically recognized (Once Upon a Townsville, 2016 Emmy Award nominee). She has voiceover credits for commercials, cartoons, and toys, as well as TV acting credits, including 24, Weeds, and Shameless.

Jake Goldman is a writer for the Powerpuff Girls TV show, and he has been working on the IDW comic for some time.

Derek Charm has worked on IDW’s Disney titles (Mickey Mouse, Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, etc).  He has worked on some of the new Archie titles (Archie, Riverdale, Jughead, Josie and the Pussycats, etc), and on IDW’s Cartoon Network comics (Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, Super Secret Crisis War, Regular Show, etc).  He also worked on Star Trek, My Little Pont, GI Joe, GI Joe vs Transformers, Street Fighter vs GI Joe, Edward Scissorhands, Generation Zero, Valiant High, and more.  He has a broad talent base, and is both comfortable and proficient in many different styles.

Nicoletta Baldari has done a fair amount of work for IDW. She has worked on My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, and Powerpuff Girls.

This is the second collection of Powerpuff Girls under the IDW label.  DC previously published Powerpuff Girls for several years around the turn of the century.  They appeared in 2014’s Super Secret Crisis War!

This is the second collection. The first collection appeared last year, containing issues one through three. This collection includes three full-length stories. In the first story, the girls are tricked when a wish for the ability to ride a bike goes terribly wrong. In the next, they have to defeat their arch-nemesis, Mojo JoJo, during a go-cart race.  In the last story, the girls get “sassified” by a ray blast while fighting the Fashionistas.

The writing is extremely similar to the show. This is obvious, given that the writers worked on the series. The artwork is also extremely similar to the series. IDW is creating a comic that caters specifically to hardcore fans of the popular TV series. So, if you’re a Powerpuff Girls fan, this book is a must-read!
