Star-Lord was born Peter Quill (on Earth). He never knew his father and lost his mother, but was taken in by a band of space pirates (the Ravagers). He became one of them, was arrested, and found himself on the run with a group of warriors set on protecting themselves and the world. They don’t always see eye-to-eye, but they are damn good at saving the galaxy.
Diamond Select Toys presents this nine-inch PVC diorama of Star-Lord as he appears in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He is in scale to all Gallery and Femme Fatale PVC figures and is sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios.
As part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill does a lot of work when it comes to battle. This diorama shows him in the middle of one. He is shown floating from the jet on his back, space helmet on, holding out two guns with both hands in opposite directions. Clearly, he’s ready to fight. Gentle Giant Studios did a great job on this sculpt, getting every detail of Star-Lord’s wardrobe, like his armor and the smaller accessories on top of it.
The base of this diorama has to be what gets me, though, because it’s seriously striking. The blast from Star-Lord’s jet pack is what is holding him up, so it looks like he’s levitating. The blast itself is sculpted to look realistic and really different from the rest of the diorama. It’s a great way to hold up a hero, if you ask me.
The paint job is done really well, too, seeing as we can make out small nuances in Star-Lord’s wardrobe, space helmet, and weapons. This is a great collectible overall, and is definitely worth the mere $45.00 it costs to pre-order on diamondselecttoys.com. Also available are dioramas of Drax with Groot and Gamora with Rocket Raccoon. This is a set of collectibles that any Guardians of the Galaxy fan has to get their hands on.
