Diamond Select Toys: Punisher PVC Diorama ComicWow! Review

After his family was murdered, Frank Castle showed no mercy for the criminals in New York City. Often times, it brings him head to head with a non-lethal hero, Daredevil. In most of the world, Frank will be known as the Punisher.

This PVC diorama from Diamond Select Toys is based off of the Punisher’s appearance in Netflix’s original series, Daredevil.  It is based on the Marvel character of the same name, and is the first in a series of shows that led to The Defenders crossover series. Created by Drew Goddard, Daredevil has been met with overwhelmingly positive reactions and tons of renewals, because yeah, it’s that good.

This diorama stands at 11 inches and is made of high-grade plastic, featuring a detailed sculpt by Rocco Tartamella and exacting paint applications. It’s one damn good looking collectible that is going to look amazing in any Marvel collection, especially one featuring a lot of Daredevil and the Punisher.

I’m going to start off with the sculpt. In the show, the Punisher is played by Jon Bernthal. You know, Brad from The Wolf of Wall Street, Shane from The Walking Dead… Yeah, that guy. Tartamella makes this sculpt look eerily similar to Bernthal’s persona. It’s freakin’ awesome! So realistic, so atmospheric, so perfect. The Punisher stands with a gun in one hand and Daredevil’s cowl in the other—it’s such a powerful pose—one that doesn’t show any mercy, a lot like the Punisher himself. My favorite part has to be the Punisher’s right hand, which is holding a huge gun—however, his pinky is lifted up. I don’t know if this was intentional to give the “classy” look, but it’s both hilarious and characteristic. The Punisher’s wardrobe is also perfect, as he wears what he does in the Netflix series—the classic skull shirt, combat boots, long trench coat, and dark baggy pants. It all looks absolutely stunning.

The paint job is done really well, too. Highlights and shadows help point on folds in the wardrobe and the Punisher’s overall dark aesthetic. I mean, we can even see some shadow on his face from facial hair! Everything is done with such precise detail that it’s almost unbelievable how perfect this collectible is.
