I remember seeing GWAR in 2007, when I was 14. They were playing Viva La Bands with CKY, Vains of Jenna, and Cradle of Filth, who headlined the tour. I can still remember the imitation blood being sprayed on the crowd, the vitality of the stage presence, the sheer energy built up in that small club… But GWAR isn’t only a heavy metal/shock rock band.
These antics are being shifted from the stage to the page in GWAR’s new comic book series, GWAR: Orgasmageddon. The band’s signature themes of murder and general carnage will fuel a gory, bloody new miniseries. The creative team behind this mayhem is as solid as can be. GWAR will be heavily involved in the writing process, but Matt Miner (Toe Tag Riot, Liberator, Critical Hit) will serve as the main writer. The rest of the team includes artist Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (Welcome Back, Critical Hit, Blood Drive), colorist Marissa Louise (Escape from New York, RoboCop), letterer Taylor Esposito (The Paybacks, Red Hood & the Outlaws), and editor Brendan Wright (Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight, Archie vs. Predator).
The story takes place in Antarctica, where the members of GWAR make their way through time, meeting and destroying most in their path in an attempt to answer the question, “How the hell did we get here, and why is everything so damn effed up?!”
The comic series’ Kickstarter has recently been launched, so head over to see what all the hype is about. Help support the making of the comic and receive some awesome, VERY exclusive rewards as thanks from the band and creative team!
